WorldPride Amsterdam is officially over. As the Give a Damn Foundation, we took part in the Pride Walk, celebrated our community at our Pride Summer Gathering at The Grand, and attended the WorldPride Human Rights Conference at the Beurs van Berlage.
That conference was an inspiring day full of encounters with people who, each in their own way, are committed to LGBTIQ+ rights worldwide. It was wonderful to see and feel that there are so many of us who want to make the world a little better.
At the same time, the reality was sobering. Only 33 cents of every 100 dollars in donations goes to LGBTIQ+ causes. Add to that the decline in international funding, including from USAID, and it is becoming increasingly difficult for activists and organisations worldwide to fund their vital work.
That is precisely why we believe in trust-based giving: supporting local LGBTIQ+ organisations based on trust in the people who know best what is needed.
